Personal papers of Thelma Desselle Smith, longtime teacher/schooladministrator in Natchitoches Parish and dedicated civic organizer, after retirement in New Orleans. History and activities of Urban League during 1976-1990 are well documented. Also, Smith wrote large numbers of letters to the editor which shed considerable light on many local political battles, especially pertaining to education, which took place in New Orleans between 1976-1990.
